to wedding planning
A SIMPLE GUIDE
So you’ve just got engaged - congratulations! Whether you've been planning your wedding since you were little or you're suddenly staring at a blank spreadsheet wondering what to do first, I’ve got you.
In a world of Pinterest boards and Instagram overload, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But don’t worry - here’s a gentle, no-stress guide to what to book when (and why it matters).
Your Venue and Date - ASAP
Venues often book up 18–24 months in advance, especially for peak seasons and weekends. Your date and location will impact everything else, so this is the one to get sorted first.
Your Photographer - 12 - 18 months before
Great photographers get snapped up early (pun intended). If photos are a priority for you, get your favourite booked once your venue is confirmed.
Hair and Makeup - 12 -18 months before
If you’re eyeing a specific artist or want someone who brings calm, luxury vibes to your morning, book early. I open my diary 12–18 months in advance and often have popular summer Saturdays book up quickly.
Your Dress - 12 months before
Some bridal gowns take 6–9 months to arrive and will likely need alterations, so it’s worth getting this sorted early. Plus, once you have your dress, it’s easier to plan your whole look.
Save the Dates & Invites - 9 - 12 months before
Give your guests a heads-up as soon as you’ve confirmed your date and venue - especially if you’re getting married during school holidays or abroad.
Your Suits - 6 - 9 months before
Whether buying or hiring, leave enough time for fittings and alterations, and to make sure everything ties in with your wedding colour palette.
Everything Else
Florists, stylists, bands, caterers, cake makers, transport - if you’ve got your heart set on someone specific, get in touch as soon as possible. Suppliers will always be happy to let you know when to book them.
