Beth'wedding day

Beth’s wedding morning started early - 5:30am early - but thanks to a local hotel stay the night before, we avoided an even earlier “forever grateful” alarm call.

With ten makeup services booked, it was all systems go from the moment I arrived. But despite the numbers (and the sunrise start), the atmosphere was calm, warm and quietly buzzing with excitement.

We got ready in a spacious nearby Airbnb, fuelled by tea, bacon rolls and pastries. Sometimes a big bridal party can feel hectic - this was the opposite. Relaxed. Organised. Everything flowed exactly as it should.

The venue: Smeetham Hall Barn, Essex

Smeetham Hall Barn is a beautiful Essex countryside venue - rustic charm with soft romantic touches that make it perfect for an autumn wedding.

Beth leaned into that seasonal warmth, with burnt oranges and deep greens running through the bridal party styling. Even a brief burst of rain after the ceremony only added to the magic - the golden hour umbrella photos were completely worth it.

Barn venues like this call for makeup that feels warm, flattering and long-lasting - something that complements candlelight and countryside backdrops equally.

The bridal vision

Beth doesn’t usually wear much makeup, so the goal wasn’t transformation - it was enhancement.

She wanted to feel confident and polished, but still completely like herself.

That’s something I hear often from brides who don’t wear makeup day-to-day. The key is creating definition in a way that feels soft and wearable - never heavy.

The makeup look

We built Beth’s look around natural glow and gentle structure.

  • Soft-focus, skin-like base with warm undertones

  • Light sculpting to subtly define

  • Soft shimmer through the eyes, blended slightly higher to flatter hooded eyes

  • Individual lashes for lift without weight

  • Natural blush and lip tones to keep everything fresh

The result was glowing, comfortable and long-lasting - makeup that photographed beautifully without ever feeling overdone.

And most importantly, she still felt like herself.

Why this look worked so well

For an autumn barn wedding and an early start like this, the makeup needed to:

  • Last from 5:30am prep to evening dancing

  • Work in natural daylight and warm indoor lighting

  • Feel lightweight for a bride who doesn’t usually wear much

  • Complement rich seasonal colour palettes

Careful layering and long-wear products ensured everything stayed flawless from ceremony to first dance - even with unpredictable weather.

And with a large bridal party, structured timing meant no rushing, no stress and everyone ready exactly on schedule.

Hannah x

A note from Beth

“From my initial enquiry right through to my wedding morning, Hannah was fantastic. As someone that doesn’t really wear makeup, I had no idea what I wanted or what to ask for during my trial. Hannah guided me through the process, pausing at each stage to ensure I was happy and see if I wanted any changes. My finished look meant I still felt like myself but also felt special for my wedding day.

I had a large bridal party but Hannah was unfazed by the 5:30am start and effortlessly completed each of our looks in turn to ensure that we were all ready in time. Thank you for being such a key part of my wedding morning and for making me and my bridal party look and feel amazing!”
